中国金融学家吴晓求对话英国历史学家尼尔·弗格森：金融与大国兴衰

自哥伦布发现新大陆以来的500多年间，世界历史舞台上不断上演着大国间权力的兴衰更迭。从荷兰在欧洲发行货币享受铸币税特权，到国际金本位制确保英国主宰世界，再到美元成为美国霸权的支柱，当中无不彰显着金融对大国兴衰的巨大影响。进入21世纪，国际政治经济格局持续发生深刻变化，特别是2008年国际金融危机后，以中国等金砖国家为代表的新兴大国和广大发展中国家群体性崛起，推动人类社会进入了大发展大变革大调整的新时代。本期重阳论坛有幸邀请到英国著名历史学家尼尔·弗格森教授讲授当前国际大变局，并与中国人民大学副校长、中国金融学家吴晓求教授就金融与大国兴衰议题展开对话。

尼尔·弗格森(Niall Ferguson)：著名历史学家，斯坦福大学胡佛研究所米尔班克高级研究员，哈佛大学欧洲研究中心高级研究员，哈佛大学历史系劳伦斯·A.蒂施讲席教授，约翰·霍普金斯大学尼采高级国际研究学院迪勒-冯·弗斯滕伯格基金会杰出学者。弗格森共撰写了包括《战争的悲悯》《罗斯柴尔德家族》《帝国》《文明》《基辛格：理想主义者》在内的15部著作，其中《基辛格：理想主义者》荣获美国外交关系协会阿瑟·罗斯奖。2008年，根据其作品改编的PBS系列纪录片《货币崛起》荣获国际艾美奖最佳纪录片奖。2011年，其电影公司推出的首部长篇纪录片《基辛格》荣获纽约国际电影节最佳纪录片奖。弗格森荣获的其他众多奖项还包括本杰明·富兰克林公共服务奖（2010年）、哈耶克终身成就奖（2012年）、路德维希·艾哈德经济新闻奖（2013年）。除了每星期为《星期日泰晤士报》和《波士顿环球报》撰写专栏，他还创办了Greenmantle咨询公司，并担任董事总经理，并同时担任艾弗里资产管理公司（Affiliated Managers Group）的董事。他的新书《广场与高塔》于2018年1月在美国出版。

吴晓求：中国人民大学副校长、金融与证券研究所所长、一级教授（金融学），中国人民大学学位委员会副主席，教育部长江学者特聘教授（2007）。吴晓求教授是我国经济学界在资本市场研究领域有重要影响力的学者，是我国证券教学、科研、人才培养和资本市场理论研究的重要开拓者。

Finance, the Rise and Fall of 

the Great Powers

For more than 500 years since Columbus discovered the New World, the rise and fall of power among great powers have continued to unfold on the stage of world history. From the privileges of seigniorage Holland enjoyed when it issued currency in Europe, to the international gold standard system to ensure that the United Kingdom dominated the world, and then the U.S dollar as a pillar of American hegemony, which all highlight the great influence of finance on the rise and fall of big countries. After entering the 21st century, the international political and economic structure has undergone profound changes. Especially after the international financial crisis in 2008, emerging powers and developing countries, represented by China and other BRICS countries, have risen collectively, pushing the human society into a new era of great development, great change and great adjustment. Chongyang Forum is honored to invite Professor Neil Ferguson, a famous British historian, to deliver a lecture on current international major changes. He will also dialogue with Professor Wu Xiaoqiu, Vice President of Renmin University of China and a prominent Chinese financial expert, on the issue of the rise and fall of finance and great powers.

Keynote Speaker: Niall Ferguson

Niall Ferguson, MA, D.Phil., is the Milbank Family Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, and a senior fellow of the Center for European Studies, Harvard, where he served for twelve years as the Laurence A. Tisch Professor of History. He is also a visiting professor at Tsinghua University, Beijing, and the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation Distinguished Scholar at the Nitze School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC. He is the author of fifteen books, including The Pity of War, The House of Rothschild, Empire, Civilization and Kissinger, 1923-1968: The Idealist, which won the Council on Foreign Relations Arthur Ross Prize. He is an award-making filmmaker, too, having won an international Emmy for his PBS series The Ascent of Money. His many other prizes include the Benjamin Franklin Prize for Public Service (2010), the Hayek Prize for Lifetime Achievement (2012) and the Ludwig Erhard Prize for Economic Journalism (2013). In addition to writing a weekly column for the Sunday Times (London) and the Boston Globe, he is the founder and managing director of Greenmantle LLC, an advisory firm. He also serves on the board of Affiliated Managers Group. His new book, The Square and the Tower, was published in the U.S. in January.

Dr. WU got his Doctoral Degree in Economy in July 1990, and became Professor in June 1993. As professor of finance and supervisor of doctor candidates, he also serves as Vice President of Renmin University of China, Executive Vice-President of the Graduate School, Vice Chairman of the University Academic Council, Director of Finance and Securities Institute under the School of Finance and Yangtz Scholar (2007). Dr. WU Xiaoqiu is one of the most influential professors in the study of capital market in China.
